The Barony of Marinus

Heraldry

On the field of Battle and when parading through the streets, how are people to distinguish you from the other Knights and Nobles?

Who is that person calling out loudly on the field making announcements?

HERALDRY Of course!

Heralds in the Society for Creative Anachronism perform many duties throughout their local groups and their Kingdoms.

Book Heralds: Research period names, naming conventions, and armorial practices for the registering of Names and Coats of Arms for the Populace.

Voice Heralds: Use their voices to call announcements, proclaim who is fighting upon the field, and act as the voice of nobility in court.

Protocol Heralds: Record awards and honors bestowed, draft ceremonies, and determine precedence and other period legal niceties in all sorts of situations.

Heralds also work closely with our good friends in the College of Scribes, whose art and artistry with pen and brush make what we do beautiful.

Anyone can be a herald! And if this sounds like something you would be interested in - talk to your local herald and we can get you in the loop!
